Magritte Museum

In the building of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, visitors can discover, on 2500 square meters, the world’s largest collection of René Magritte’s works.
The unique collection bears witness to Magritte’s leading role in international surrealism, and covers all periods of this major twentieth-century artist’s oeuvre.

Belgian Comic Strip Centre - CBBD

One of the major Brussels tourist attractions and a superb example of Art Nouveau architecture, the Belgian Comic Strip Centre brings together everything related to the comic strip, from its prestigious beginnings to its most recent developments, over an area of more than 4,000 square meters: permanent and temporary exhibitions, library, documentation centre, bookshop, bar…

All this you can find just 15 minutes away from the Conscience building.

Grand Place

The Grote Markt or Grand Place is the central market square of Brussels. It is surrounded by guild houses, the city’s Town Hall, and the Bread House. The square is the most important tourist destination and most memorable landmark in Brussels next to the Atomium and Manneken Pis.

It’s a twenty-minute walk from the Conscience building to the Grand Place.

Manneken Pis

Manneken Pis (Dutch for little man urinating), also known in French as the petit Julien, is a famous Brussels landmark. It is a small bronze fountain sculpture depicting a naked little boy urinating into the fountain’s basin.

On foot, it’s 25 minutes from the conference venue.

The famous statue is located at the junction of Rue de l’Étuve/Stoofstraat and Rue du Chêne/Eikstraat. To find it, one takes the left lane next to the Brussels City Hall from the famous Grand Place and walks a few hundred meters to arrive at the spot. The statue will be on the left corner.

The Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula

The cathedral is a vibrant cultural place. The arts often contribute to the
liturgy. Various concerts and exhibitions take place there. The cathedral is also a remarkable archaeological site. Its history covers 12 centuries.

Through the ages the cathedral walls have witnessed a lot of important
historical events.

It’s a twenty-minute walk from the Conscience building.

Royal Palace of Brussels

The Royal Palace of Brussels is the official palace of the Belgian King in the centre of Brussels. However it is not used as a royal residence, as the king and his family live in the Royal Castle of Laeken on the outskirts of Brussels.

From the Conscience building, it’s a thirty-minute walk away.

The palace is situated in front of the Brussels Park. A long square called the Paleizenplein/Place des Palais separates the palace from the park. The middle axis of the park marks both the middle peristyle of the palace and the middle of the facing building on the other side of the park, which is the Palace of the Nation (the Belgian Federal Parliament building).
